2025 Chevrolet Traverse Engine and Performance
All Traverse versions are powered by the same 3.6-liter V6 engine without forced induction. This engine, which produces 310 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque, sends power to the front wheels by default, with all-wheel drive available on all model levels. The V6 Traverse’s turn of speed will wow you on a test drive, but it never truly thrills as a driving experience. Independent tests put the 0-60 mph sprint at 6.5 to 6.8 seconds, about a second faster than the Kia Telluride, and the Korean has an even larger 3.8-liter V6. The Traverse can tow up to 5,000 pounds with its optional trailering kit, giving it another competitive edge in this market.
The Traverse’s performance startled us the most, in a positive sense. The snappy naturally aspirated V6 is a good decision for this truck; Chevy could have easily underpowered it with a NA four-cylinder, especially on the lowest model. But, no, every Traverse trim gets the power it need. Our RS tester’s standard AWD came in handy during a snowy week in Colorado, and the crossover performed admirably as it pushed its way out of snow ploughed to the side of the road. The road was a little slick, but the Traverse’s all-season tyres handled it well.
Although not the most advanced engine in its class, the 3.6-liter V6 produces 310 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque. Like most normally aspirated engines, power is delivered in a smooth and linear manner. This makes the Traverse a delight to drive around town and on the highway, where it can cruise at the maximum permissible speed without incident.
The V6 is paired with a nine-speed automated gearbox. We had no major issues about this gearbox, since changes were smooth and quick enough for a reasonably substantial mid-size crossover like this. The automated start/stop technology was smooth and barely detectable, which we can’t say about every new vehicle, including a handful that cost much more.

2025 Traverse Exterior
Last year’s revisions to the headlights, grille, taillights, and wheel designs improved the appearance of the three-row Chevy Traverse. It is still a conservatively fashioned vehicle, but nothing is overdone, giving it a premium feel. The base model features 18-inch alloy wheels, LED external lighting (including daytime running lights), and a manual liftgate. On the opposite end of the range, the High Country features a rear camera mirror washer, a hands-free power programmed liftgate, and a two-panel power sunroof. Upper trims come standard with 20-inch alloy wheels, while lower trims get them as an option.
Our Cherry Red Tintcoat Traverse RS AWD tester was equipped with 20-inch dark aluminium wheels, a power liftgate, black roof rails, and power-folding heated outside mirrors. It’s an appealing crossover that doesn’t scream “minivan” in any way. The slightly sportier-looking RS trim does its best to seem cool, as the Cherry Red colour and black wheels drew a few stares. But, in general, Chevy kept it safe with the exterior design, which was unquestionably the right decision for this class.

All trims include a 60/40 split-folding rear bench. The eight-way power driver’s seat with lumbar is usually supportive, and we quickly found a comfortable position with good rearward sight. Both the driver and front passenger seats were heated, which was a much-appreciated amenity in late January. The High Country comes standard with the Dual SkyScape sunroof, while the LT and Premier trims have it as an option.

Moving about the cabin is simple because to the remarkably big interior volume – 157.1 cubic feet. The second and third rows of seats can be adjusted using traditional handles and belts, but electronic adjustment would bring the Traverse up to date.
