Hyundai Kona 2025 Engine and Performance
The base engine in the Hyundai Kona SE and SEL is the same naturally aspirated Atkinson-cycle 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder from the previous Kona, producing only 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque. The drivetrain remains unchanged, with this engine paired to a CVT transmission with front-wheel drive or optional all-wheel drive. With more weight to carry and the same outputs, the Hyundai Kona’s 0-60 sprint takes more over ten seconds, which is worse than a Honda HR-V. The N Line features a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with 190 horsepower (5 hp fewer than previously) and 195 pound-feet of torque. It removes the former model’s seven-speed dual-clutch automatic in favour of a torque-converter eight-speed automatic gearbox and gains some weight, allowing it to reach 60 mph in roughly 8.3 seconds, which is around a second slower than before. However, the powerful mid-range torque makes it more enjoyable to operate, but its reflexes might be a little slow. This engine is available in both FWD and AWD configurations. In all circumstances, the maximum speed is limited to 125 mph.
As you can see, the increased weight this year has made all of the figures worse. The overall refinement improvement is notable, with increased sound deadening making the new car a pleasure to drive.
